Local Housing Starts Continue To Climb

Total housing starts across Ontario were down from March, but construction of single family homes in Sarnia continues to climb.

CMHC market analyst Analyst Anthony Passarelli says work began on 13 homes last month, up from nine starts in April 2015.

He says for the first four months of the year housing starts are well ahead of last years pace, 37 compared to 18.

"In southwest Ontario, London, Windsor, Sarnia and Woodstock you see that demand is growing and supply in existing homes is not keeping up with that, allowing builders to sell more homes this year," says Passarelli.

The numbers include Sarnia, St. Clair Twp and Point Edward.
