An impressive army of volunteers mobilized in a cool north wind under sunny skies Saturday for the city's second annual Community Parks Clean-Up Day.
There were a total of 25 parks registered for a spring cleaning to mark the beginning of Earth Week.
Manager of Parks, Sports and Horticulture Patti Ross says the designated community clean-up day is not the only day waste is picked up.
“Initial staff has started and they are out in the worst areas that aren’t scheduled on parks clean-up on Saturday,” she says.
All those who registered were given a kit full of essential clean-up tools including gloves, recycling/garbage bags, paint, rakes and first aid kits. All groups were able to choose a different section of the city to pick up garbage.
Volunteers were treated to a BBQ at Canatara Park after the event.
