Lambton OPP say one person, believed to be a woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a residential structure fire on Queen St. in Petrolia Wednesday.

Constable Travis Parsons says police, Enniskillen and Plympton-Wyoming firefighters and EMS responded around 11am to a home across from Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational School.

“Upon arrival officers noticed the house was already engulfed in flames,” says Parsons.¬†“One resident was transported to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.”

The adjacent homes had to be evacuated as well. One neighbouring home sustained heat damage to its exterior.

The Town of Petrolia says students at LCCVI and nearby St. Philip school were not affected by the fire.

Queen St. was closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic to allow for the investigation.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.
