City Protecting Community Around SCITS

The City of Sarnia will send a staff representative to deliver its community impact assessment report to the LKDSB's Accommodation Review Committee.

Susan MacKenzie of the 'Save SCITS' group made the request in a delegation to Sarnia council Monday afternoon.

Councillor Mike Kelch says the school board has a difficult decision ahead of them.

"That decision will be a defining moment for a large section of Sarnia that's already under duress, already feeling the effects of other building closures in the vicinity," says Kelch.

"It will be a defining moment for the entire city since what happens in the south affects us all eventually, we're in this together."

He says it's not about which school or area is better, it's about which closure will do the least amount of damage.

Councillor Anne-Marie Gillis hopes the school board's decision isn't predetermined and that they take into consideration city staff report.

Various other councillors threw their support behind protecting the south end community near SCITS Monday.
