Union Gas Expands Natural Gas Infrastructure

Union Gas officials have begun work on a major expansion project in Dawn-Euphemia.

Construction of a new, $250-million compressor station is underway on Bentpath Line, and about 100 local contractors have been hired to do electrical, and instrumentation work.

Spokesperson Andrea Stass says over the next five years, the utility is expanding the natural gas transmission system that runs from Dawn to Mississauga.

"Compressors play an intricate role in moving gas through the transmission system. So they're an important part of that infrastructure and this expansion at Dawn will help us to move additional volumes of gas through the transmission system," she says. "So that's helping to meet and increase demand for natural gas, and an increased demand to move natural gas along this pathway."

Right now, gravel and soil are being moved in order to construct berms.

Once the compressor station is built, a new pipeline system will be built to connect to the existing infrastructure.

Work is expected to ramp up in April, and is hoped to be complete by November.
