Bitter Cold Continues With Snow Squalls

Environment Canada ended the extreme cold warning for Sarnia-Lambton late Saturday morning, but the bitter cold will continue with snow squalls impacting north and east Lambton County.

Wind chills will remain near the national weather agency's -30 C warning criteria Saturday and Sunday with a value of -29 C forecast for Saturday night.

The coldest air of the season arrived overnight, accompanied by gusty northwest winds.

A cold weather alert issued by the Lambton medical officer of health remains in effect.

Residents are advised to always wear clothing appropriate for the weather. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide better insulation. Dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer. Wear warm socks, gloves, a hat and scarf in cold weather. Be sure to cover your nose to protect it.

If you get wet, change into dry clothing as soon as possible. You lose heat faster when you're wet.

A snow squall warning remains in effect for snow belt areas southeast of Lake Huron including north and east Lambton County and London-Middlesex.

The main squall is occurring from near Kettle Point to Glencoe with other squalls from Lambton Shores and Grand Bend to Strathroy.

Total snowfall amounts in excess of 30 cm are likely in a few locales just to the southeast of Lake Huron by Saturday evening.
