Mayor Upset To See Junior Team Leave

The mayor of Brooke-Alvinston is disappointed to see their local Junior C team leave town after 27 years.

The Alvinston Flyers began as a Junior D team in 1988, but pending OHA approval, they will move to Petrolia next season.

Don McGugan says he spoke with the team's owner about keeping the team in town, but understands it was a business decision.

He says the community will take a hit when the Flyers leave.

"The icetime that the Flyers were using will be picked up by another organization, so thats a postive for the arena. It will be the concession stand and restaurants that will suffer," says Mcgugan. "After the games a lot of people head into town and grab a pizza or have a burger or something."

The Flyers host Essex Friday night in what might be their final game in Alvinston, as they face elimination in their first round series against the front running 73's.
