Marine Unit Seeking Student Help

Lambton Ontario Provincial Police are looking for three students to fill marine assistant positions for this summer's boating season.

The students will work along side officers on a police vessel. They'll be responsible for things like marine checks, and enforcement of the Canada Shipping Act, Criminal Code, and Liquor Licence Act.

Sergeant Tim Ives says it's a great opportunity for those looking to get into the policing field.

"They have to have a drivers license and they would have to have a boaters license and of course be able to swim, their CPR and first aid, that has to be current as well," says Ives. "It generally starts the May long weekend and finished up about Labour Day."

Ives says education in a program like Police Foundations is an asset.

Those interested in applying can visit the OPP's Career page at www.opp.ca. Online applications will be accepted until February 16.
