Council Briefs

COUNCIL BRIEFS:

Sarnia council has endorsed a County of Lambton report recommending the speed limit on Lakeshore Rd. between Mandaumin Rd. and Telfer Rd. be maintained at 70km/h.

Councillor Anne-Marie Gillis voiced concerns of discrepancies between details in the report and a community petition. Mayor Mike Bradley clarified the report was sent for city input as a courtesy since the county owns the road.

Reserve funding will be allocated to the revitalization project of Sarnia's Fire Station 2 on Scott Rd. The project went $114,450 over budget.

--

A second crossing guard has been approved at Errol Road Public School. The school's principal and city police had voiced concerns of drivers not yielding to students on the east side of the Indian Rd. intersection.

The establishment of "Go Green Awards" will encourage youth, groups, individuals and businesses to celebrate and challenge others to be environmentally responsible on a local level.

Through city council's endorsement Monday, the Sarnia Environmental Advisory Committee will now finalize plans for the awards, and will hold annual ceremonies at council's regular meeting following Earth Day.
