UPDATED: Blue Water Bridge Reopens Following Emergency

An emergency temporarily closed the Blue Water Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

Lambton OPP reported both spans were initially closed but the Michigan Department of Transport later reported the eastbound span into Canada had reopened.

The westbound span to the U.S. remained closed due to an emergency situation, believed to be a person on the bridge possibly threatening to jump.

At about 5pm officials indicated the person had been talked down and bridge operations, in both directions, were returning to normal.

Police, fire and EMS had responded to the scene.

Traffic on the westbound 402 approach to the bridge was backed up as a result of the temporary closure.
