Second Errol Road School Crossing Guard Recommended

It's recommended Sarnia City council hire a second crossing guard at Errol Road Public School.

A staff report states police monitoring and awareness campaigns have unsuccessfully stopped drivers from failing to yield to students in the area.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the City of Sarnia maintains 32 guarded student crossings, including one guard already at the Errol Rd. and Indian Rd. intersection.

"Based on concerns that have been expressed by the principal and monitoring by city staff, is there should by an additional crossing guard in that area," he says. "That costs us a bit of money, but on the other hand, we're dealing with young people's lives and I think it's a good recommendation."

Sarnia police say the four lanes and a large median on Indian Rd. make it difficult at times for drivers to properly see crossing guards and students.

A three year contract to 2018 would cost almost $17,000.
