School Board Receives $40K From Noelle's Gift

Noelle's Gift has donated another $40,000 to the Lambton Kent District School Board.

Committee Member Jackie Major-Daamen says that brings the total donated to the public school board to $150,000 since April 2013. She says the money is part of their semi-annual donation to the board.

Principal of Rosedale Public School Sandra Perkins says the money helps them purchase items like eyeglasses, clothing, food and medicine for students in need. She says it helps supply students with the basics, so they can focus on being a kid.

"Quite often they don't have things like snow pants, winter boots, or indoor shoes, and they don't have access to the funds to afford it, "says Perkins. "In order to play outdoors with their peers, they need these basic necessities."

Principal of P.E. McGibbon Public School Helen Lane says she has already witnessed the charity's positive impact first hand.

"Every principal has the mandate to approve purchases up to $200," says Lane. "We do try and meet needs in a very short time period, in about 24 to 48 hours."

To date, Noelle's Gift has raised over $600,000.

The charity was formed after the tragic death of 27-year-old school teacher Noelle Paquette in early 2013, and officially became a registered charity in November 2015.
