MTO Hopes To Recover Overpass Repair Costs

The Ontario Transportation Ministry says it'll look to recover repair costs after a transport truck hit and damaged the Hwy. 402 Indian Rd. overpass in late November.

An eastbound transport and its load smashed into the overpass November 23, resulting in the temporary closure of the highway and Indian Rd.

Spokesperson Liane Fisher says the MTO is still finalizing the cost of repairs to the structure, which reopened November 26.

She expects the overpass to be fully repaired this spring.

"Work to repair the bridge and restore traffic on Indian Rd. has been advertised and we expect that work will be completed in May," says Fisher.

A temporary bypass was installed to allow for two way traffic over the overpass until full repairs can be made.

Lambton OPP announced Thursday that charges have been laid against Scarborough-based Automatic Coating Limited, and truck driver, 55-year-old Terrance Hamilton of Scarborough.
