First Local Confirmed Flu Case

Sarnia-Lambton has its first confirmed flu case of the season.

Lambton Public Health Supervisor Erin Courtney says the case is a child. She says numbers so far are significantly lower than last flu season.

"Last year at this time, we were around 29 cases. Typically we peak with flu in the beginning of January, but we're seeing a trend throughout the province where it is a mild year," says Courtney.

There were 63 lab confirmed cases of influenza and three flu-related deaths in Sarnia Lambton last flu season.

Residents are reminded to continue to prevent spread of the viruses by washing hands with soap frequently, keeping ill family members home from school or work and cleaning regularly touched surfaces like door handles and computer keyboards often.
