Aamjiwnaang Remembers (GALLERY)

Members of the community gathered at the Aamjiwnaang First Nation Cenotaph in Sarnia Tuesday for the annual Remembrance Day ceremony.

Emcee John Stewart with the Air Force Association says the community first remembers a day before the November 11th national ceremony.

After the ceremony, Aamjiwnaang Chief Chris Plain says the community lost its last World War II veteran earlier this year, 94-year old Stanley Jackson.

"He was here for every ceremony and laid the first poppy. It's bittersweet that we can pass that on to another veteran, but also recognizing that we did lose a valuable piece of our history and our community with Mr. Jackson passing on."

Newly elected MP Marilyn Gladu, MPP Bob Bailey, Sarnia and St. Clair Township Mayors Mike Bradley and Steve Arnold were among the dignitaries on hand. Members of Sarnia Police Services and Sarnia Fire and Rescue also took part in the ceremony.
