Sarnia Police have seen a spike in calls for service compared to the same time last year.
Chief Phil Nelson says a large reason for this is crimes of opportunity.
He says about 50 per cent of reported thefts are from vehicles, they've also seen more break ins to detached garages.

Nelson says these crimes can be prevented by locking your doors, and not leaving valuables in clear view.
He says these criminals are looking for ways to get cash quickly.
