Youth Targeted at Tuesday's Debate

Sarnia-Lambton youth are the target of Tuesday night's local federal candidates debate at the Brownstones restaurant held by the Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals group. About 50 people are expected to mingle table-to-table with the local candidates, who will also take part in a "Heads Up!" game on Canada and politics. Spokesperson Natalie Normand says they wanted to offer a unique and relaxed way to interact with local candidates.

"People our age don't go to debates," says Normand. "It's probably because they don't identify with the strict rules, they don't identify with the way that the candidates stick to a script and stick on to message."

"We really wanted to give this group of voters, who otherwise doesn't engage in the political process, a new way to plug in."

Issues such as criminal justice, representing Sarnia in Ottawa, opportunities for younger generations, and change in Canada are expected to be discussed casually at each candidate table. Doors open to the public from 6-9pm.
