Protecting Heritage Home

The Chair of Sarnia's Heritage Committee hopes residents will help protect heritage designation on 166 Brock St. S.

Wayne Wager says he's disappointed city council decided Monday it wouldn't reconsider an earlier decision to repeal heritage designation on the home.

Wager says there is hope left for the public to file an appeal until October 19th.

Appeals will be considered by Ontario's Conservation Review Board who will make recommendations to Sarnia council for a future decision.

On September 14th, council voted 7-1 giving the homeowner permission to delist it as a heritage site.

The home sat vacant for the last decade and is estimated to need $50,000 worth of repairs.

Vision Nursing Home has shown interest in buying and demolishing the home if the designation is removed.
