Liquid Asphalt Spill Quickly Contained

The Canadian Coast Guard is monitoring a spill of liquid asphalt from a tug boat at Suncor's south dock early Wednesday morning.

About half a barrel of material spilled into the St. Clair River from a boat owned by McAsphalt Marine.

Company spokesman Joel Gardner says booms were deployed which helped contain all of the material to the dock area.

The Coast Guard along with the commercial oil spill response company ECRC, McAsphalt Marine, and Suncor continue to ensure safety at the site and protection of the marine environment.

Officials say navigation of the river was not impacted and the investigation is ongoing.
