First Class Of General Machinists Graduates From Lambton College

A total of 16 students from Lambton College's first class of General Machinists graduated on Tuesday.

Launched in January, the modified apprenticeship program allows students to complete all three levels of the program in 24 consecutive weeks.

Executive Dean, Academic Affairs Donna Church says it combines lab time with theory-based training.

Church emphasizes there is increased local demand for skilled workers throughout Southwestern Ontario.

Owner and General Manager of Sandrin Services Inc., Deanna Sandrin has already hired her first student from Lambton College.

She says the students learn hands on, a quality that is attractive to employers.

25 year-old student Peter DeWitt has been hired by Sandrin Services Inc. and says he feels prepared for his first job in the field.

Lambton College is already on a wait list for September's General Machinist program comprised of 24 spots.
