Storm cleanup continues

The City of Sarnia says it received limited reports of basement flooding on Thursday morning.

According to Environment Canada's website, just over 43 millimetres of rain fell in Sarnia beginning Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning.

In a tweet, the city said there have been instances of sump pump failures and foundation leakage.

Residents who experienced flooding are advised to contact their insurance company and report the incident to the city through its online reporting tool.

Several roads in Lambton Shores are closed due to flooding.

Crews have put up temporary barricades along Army Camp Road at Lakeshore Road, Outer Drive between Lakeshore Road and Dolway Drive, Kennedy Line at Elliot Road and Cole Crescent at Glendale Drive.

Motorists are reminded to watch for ponding on area roads.

Meanwhile, Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) remains closed between Highway 21 and Townsend Line as additional repairs are needed due to the heavy rainfall.

A section of Lakeshore Road was closed last weekend, between Highway 21 and Proof Line, because of a large sinkhole.

On Thursday, the County of Lambton provided an update via Twitter.

"Crews have replaced the culvert on Lakeshore Road west of Highway 21, however, due to recent rainfall events, two additional culverts require immediate replacement west of Cedar Point Line," read the tweet.

No through traffic is permitted between Glendale Road and Cedar Point Line, however, businesses remain open.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a water safety statement.

The storms also brought down several tree branches and power lines resulting in outages across Sarnia-Lambton.

A fallen tree forced the closure of a section of Wellington Street in Sarnia for several hours while Bluewater Power crews cleared the scene.
