LAV III Monument Proposed

A national memorial program is in place to provide Canadian communities with a light armoured vehicle, or LAV III, to honour those who served and lost their lives in Afghanistan.

1st Hussars Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Barry Hogan says they're asking for the City of Sarnia's support to establish a monument in an appropriate location.

The 1st Hussars would pay for installation of a concrete mounting pedestal, as well as maintenance.

Hogan says the preferred site is in Germain Park near the Golden Hawk but Centennial Park and Veteran's Park are other initial suggestions.

Sarnia-Lambton lost two soldiers in the Afghan War. William Cushley of Port Lambton was killed in action in September 2006 and Brent Poland of Camlachie was killed in April 2007.
