Riverfront Railing Under Review

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is taking another look at an ankle-high railing separating the sidewalk from the armour stone along the shoreline, just in front of the water treatment plant at the mouth of the St. Clair River.

Several people have complained, saying the 8 inch high tube is a potential tripping hazard.

Authority spokesman Girish Sankar says the railing is a safety feature to stop a snow plow from toppling into the lake.

Mr. Sankar says they decided on a lower railing to avoid obstructing the view of people sitting on nearby benches.

He admits that raising the railing would add to the cost which was about $30,000.

The entire shoreline upgrade cost about $600,000 which was jointly paid for by the province and the six municipalities belonging to the Lambton Area Water Supply System.
