Hwy 402 Improvements Discussed

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Lonny Napper says a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation Operations Manager in London was positive.

Several Hwy. 402 improvements promised in response to multi-vehicle crashes in the winter of 2014 were discussed.

Napper says he was told the former westbound weigh scale property can't be used as a safe haven during bad weather because of public misuse.

The ministry is working with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority on planting windbreak trees along the 402.

Cameras have already been installed at the Nauvoo Rd. exit.

Napper still wants to follow up on a recent auditor general's report that found fault with the privatization of winter road maintenance.

Napper was told his concerns won't be dealt with until litigation stemming from a crash involving a Wyoming volunteer firefighter is resolved.

A multi-vehicle collision injured five firefighters and destroyed two fire trucks in March 2014.
