Economists Jim Stanford with Unifor and Andrew Leach with the University of Alberta had opposing views on a potential bitumen refinery being proposed in Sarnia-Lambton.
The two squared off at the two-day "Big Debate" that continues today at the Holiday Inn in Pt.Edward.
Stanford says there is a need for these types of refineries, because most companies producing bitumen out west are sending it to their own refineries in the US.

Leach says although Sarnia is a good fit for a refinery because of existing infrastructure and the city's prime shipping location, expanding existing facilities may be a better option.
