Local Teacher Talks

There are no classes for high school students in Sudbury today as teachers join Durham Region instructors already on strike.

It's a complicated bargaining process with school boards negotiating local issues while the province deals with provincial concerns. The Wynne government says there will be no salary increases.

Lambton Kent District School Board Director Jim Costello says local bargaining sessions are planned for next week.

Lambton Kent is not one of seven boards identified by the OSSTF for strike action.

While talks with elementary teachers have stalled at the provincial level, Costello says they're still talking with the federation locally.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has been issued a "no board report" that would put them in a legal strike position May 10.

Costello says the local board would be affected by a walk-out.
