Sarnia's former fire chief Pat Cayen faces a possible penitentiary term after being convicted in January of sexual assault related charges.
The crown and defense made submissions during a sentencing hearing that spanned nearly three hours Friday.
Superior Court Justice John Desotti says a decision on such a serious matter cannot be delivered on the same day as submissions, and he'll need a few weeks.
Sentencing is set for May 15.
The crown is seeking a prison term of five to seven years while the defence suggests two to three years would be appropriate.
There was joint Crown and defence agreement to lift a publication ban on young offender offences bringing the total number of convictions to 33.
The 56-year-old Cayen was initially charged in November 2012. His employment with the Sarnia fire department was terminated in January 2013.
