Police Warn Of Lottery Scam

Lambton OPP is warning residents to be extremely careful when offered a prize from a lottery they didn't enter. Police say a 63-year-old man from St. Clair Township is out $15,000 after being scammed.

Police are working with the man and his financial institution to get his money back.

The OPP says the scammer will typically contact a potential victim through telephone or email. The scammer will then advise the victim they've won a large amount of money and, in order to collect their winnings, must send a money order to cover taxes or administrative fees.

Police warn legitimate lotteries don't require you to pay a fee.
