Future Shop Closing Canadian Stores

In shocking news Saturday morning, Future Shop announced to employees that it's closing 66 stores Canada wide and converting 65 of its other stores to the Best Buy brand.

Multiple reports, as well as signage in front of the Sarnia store, suggest the local outlet at 1380 Exmouth St. will become a Best Buy.

In a statement on its website, the company says warranties and gift cars will be accepted through Best Buy.

As a result of the consolidation, about 500 full-time and 1,000 part-time positions will be eliminated with affected employees receiving severance, employee assistance and outplacement support, according to the online statement.

Employees across the country learned of the closures and rebranding early Saturday morning as they showed up for their shifts.

Best Buy Canada says the stores being rebranded will be temporarily closed for one week as they begin their transition.
