Sarnia Sting Sale Official

The sale of the Sarnia Sting to former and current NHLers' Derian Hatcher and David Legwand is official.

The Ontario Hockey League Board of Governors has approved the transfer of ownership.

No purchase price has been disclosed.

Rob and Larry Ciccarelli initially announced January 22 that they had entered into a purchase agreement to sell the OHL franchise that moved to Sarnia from Newmarket in 1994-95.

New co-owner Derian Hatcher says boosting attendance at the RBC Centre is all about putting a winning team on the ice.

Hatcher says he and co-owner Legwand know Sarnia is a great hockey town and they want to restore the unbelievable fan support the team has enjoyed over much of its 20-year history here.

Rob Ciccarelli confirms they have sold 100 per cent of their interest in the team. He says it's bittersweet but he leaves with many fond memories of his time as owner.

Ciccarelli says the new owners will be a lot more "hands on" which he says is what's needed.

Rob and brother Larry, who have other business ventures, intend to maintain a suite at the RBC Centre and cheer on the Sting when they're in town.
