Sarnia City Council Briefs

Sarnia Transit will lease its tires from Bridgestone Canada Inc. for the next five years starting May 1.

Sarnia council approving staffs recommendation Monday.

Sarnia Transit has been leasing it's tires since the 1980's to avoid the substantial cost of purchasing tires.

Staff say leasing tires is common in the transit industry and provides smooth cash outflow and eliminates problems over warrantees .

Leasing the tires over the five year term is estimated to cost $32,000, compared to $64,000 that would be spent to purchase them.

Sarnia Council has been updated on the city's existing traffic signal synchronization.

Engineer Andre Morin says as technology improves, the ability for Sarnia to have a system where traffic signals can be monitored at a single location or computer laptop is becoming more affordable.

Morin says Sarnia's best and simplest traffic signal synchronization system is Vidal St. and Brock St.

Traffic signals are also coordinated on portions of Christina St., Front St., London Rd., Exmouth St. and Indian Rd.
