The Sarnia Sting took a big step toward securing a playoff berth beating the Spitfires 4-2 in Windsor Sunday afternoon.
Davis Brown broke a 2-2 tie five minutes into the third period with his 16th of the season and Pavel Zacha backhanded home his 15th to provide the two goal margin of victory.
Overage forward Stephen Pierog put the Sting up 2-1 in the second with a diving tip-in, set up Brown's game winner and was named first star.
The game was close despite the Sting outshooting the Spitfires 50-22. Goaltender Alex Fotinos kept his team in it but took the loss against overager Taylor Dupuis who backstopped the Sting to his 19th win.
Fotinos was third star and Leamington native Hayden Hodgson of the Sting was awarded second star honours. He had an assist.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun scored the 15th goal of his rookie season in the first period after Windsor had jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Hayden McCool.
Slater Doggett had the other Spitfire goal to tie the game early in the third.
After snapping a five game losing skid at home to Plymouth Friday, the Sting has now won two straight to climb back to the .500 mark at 27-27-4-3.
Sarnia remains in seventh place in the OHL Western Conference, ten points ahead of both Windsor and Saginaw. Plymouth is just two points behind the Spitfires and Spirit in the battle for the eighth and final playoff spot.
The Sting has just seven games remaining in the regular season.
Anthony DeAngelo and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds return to the RBC Centre Friday night and the Sting welcomes Guelph Sunday afternoon for a 4:05pm start.
