Heralding Another Shipping Season

St.Paul's Anglican Church celebrated the region's rich marine history Sunday.

The annual Mariners' Service, symbolizing the start of another shipping season, was held at the Point Edward church Sunday at 10am.

Reverend Kristen Oliver says retired teacher Fred Moss, who has served with the Mission to Seafarers for over 15 years, was guest speaker.

St. Paul's Church was a gift in 1868 from the manager of the Grand Trunk Railway.

From 1868 until 1902, the church stood at the corner of Livingston St. and Victoria Avenue in Point Edward, where its tall thin steeple, reflecting the light from the Fort Gratiot lighthouse in Pt. Huron, would help guide ships from Lake Huron into the St. Clair River.
