Bluewater Power On Board With Upgrades

Bluewater Power has agreed in principle to participate in Hydro One equipment upgrades that will improve service to its Lambton County customers.

The board of directors says the approval is subject to detailed costing of the expansion of the Wanstead Transformer Station to a 230 kV system.

CEO Janice McMichael Dennis says the initial estimated cost to Bluewater Power is $1.1-million to 1.75-million.

She says the upgrade, currently planned for 2018, will address chronic power outages in central Lambton including Oil Springs.

Hydro One says it will begin replacing aging line circuits this year that will help address outages in the short term.

Bluewater Power's cost sharing in the Wanstead station project will likely impact hydro rates but it's not yet known by how much.
