Major Winter Storm Dumps A Foot Of Snow (Gallery)

A major winter storm out of Colorado dumped 30 cm (a foot) of snow on Sarnia-Lambton Sunday into Monday with strong north-northeast winds creating waist-high drifts.

Sarnia transit busses were taken off the streets until mid afternoon.

City public works crews were busy trying to keep major streets clear.

Snow clogged side streets will not be tackled until main routes are taken care of.

Police were recommending against any travel as the storm moved east across southern Ontario causing hazardous conditions.

School busses were cancelled and schools closed across the district.

Many services and events around Sarnia-Lambton were cancelled.

Environment Canada ended the Winter Storm Warning for Sarnia-Lambton at 9am but strong north winds were producing lake effect snow causing poor visibility at times.

Blowing snow was expected to continue until the winds shift northwesterly and diminish late in the afternoon.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson estimates Sarnia area snowfall at 25 cm to 30 cm.

Windsor airport had recorded 35 cm.

Winds are forecast to become southwesterly overnight.

Another system Tuesday into Wednesday could bring another 5 cm to 10 cm of snow.

There is a lengthy list of cancellations today. To view them, click here.
