Workers Strike At Community Care Access Centres

Picketers braved harsh winds at the Community Care Access Centre on Pontiac Dr. in Sarnia Friday.

Care coordinators and nurses at nine of ten regional centres across the province are on strike after voting to reject the employer's contract offer.

Janet Griffin is the Ontario Nurses Association site rep in Sarnia.

She says they're willing to stay off the job as long as it takes.

Griffin says clients and others were being allowed through the lines.

Wages are the main issue. There hasn't been a raise in three years.

The CEO of the Erie St. Clair CCAC, Lori Marshall says home care is not being affected by the walkout.

Marshall adds, however, those waiting for placement or services will face delays.

About 260 employees of the Erie St. Clair Community Care Access Centre that encompasses Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex are on strike.
