CCAC Strike Threat Looms

Employees at ten provincial Community Care Access Centres including Sarnia- Lambton and Chatham-Kent could strike at one minute past midnight tonight.

Ontario Nurses Association Vice President Vicki McKenna says the employers have walked away from mediation.

She says they refuse to provide wage increases similar to those given to 57,000 nurses in hospitals and long-term care facilities.

The CCAC workers' last contract expired last March and they haven't had a raise in almost three years.

The ONA is recommending its members reject the employers last offer, but it's not a province-wide vote, which means strike action depends on votes by local CCAC members.
