Bluewater Health's management team has been reduced in an effort to find nearly $6-million in savings this fiscal year.
Ramifications of the plan were detailed Thursday.
It's estimated 33 jobs will be impacted but CEO Sue Denomy says they hope to keep involuntary job loss to a minimum through retirements.
She says the management and administration team have not been spared.
Denomy says over the last two years they've reduced their management team by seven and in this particular round eight individuals have been impacted throughout their administrative and management team.
Denomy says there are now 50 managers at the hospital.
While all aspects of the hospital operation have been impacted, significant cuts have been made to two programs. $1.5-million comes from medicine and $1.2-million from surgery. $1.9-million in savings is to come from wages and benefits.
Work is being done to optimize beds. The hospital says it's investigating a proposal to stabilize the number of beds where utilization is low.
At the CEE site in Petrolia, the cafeteria will close in April and patients will register via video after hours. Late last year the hospital announced that endoscopy services would be consolidated in Sarnia.
