Upgrades Needed At City Arenas

Roughly 50 people were on hand last night for the second of three public meetings to discuss the city's arena management strategy.

City-hired consultants outlined several upgrades needed to existing facilities, and say it would cost a minimum of $3.1-million, with the potential for that number to rise depending on growing issues with the rinks.

Each arena will need individual work done, with upgrades to dressing rooms, and increasing the facilities accessibility as priorities.

All options will be considered, like operating with five city ice pads instead of six, or possibly building a new rink if renovations prove too costly.

The options will be laid out during the third and final meeting, expected to be sometime in late February or early March.
