Impact Of Suncor Job Cuts Unknown At Sarnia Refinery

The impact of Suncor job cuts at the company’s Sarnia refinery is unclear.

The energy giant plans to layoff one-thousand workers and cut one-billion dollars from its capital budget, as it copes with falling crude prices.

Company spokesperson Sneh Seetal says it’s too early to say how the Sarnia-Lambton workforce will be affected.

Seetal says Suncor has almost 14,000 employees from coast to coast with some refining and marketing employees in the U.S.

She says Suncor will continue to monitor the crude pricing environment.

Seetal says it is difficult to predict where prices will go, but the company is prepared to take additional steps as required.

According to the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership there are 350 full time employees at Sarnia’s Suncor Refinery.
