Christmas Eve Wind Warning

A wind warning is in effect for much of southern Ontario including Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent and London-Middlesex.

A strong low pressure system developing over western Ohio is deepening quite quickly as it tracks north across Lake Huron.

The area will be buffeted by very strong southwesterly winds of 60 km/h to 90 km/h for a few hours Wednesday night beginning around 8pm or 9pm.

A few gusts of 100 km/h will be quite likely in exposed areas in regions near the great lakes and over higher ground.

The winds will be strong enough to bring down trees and tree limbs and cause local power outages.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Motorists travelling for the Christmas holidays should be prepared for difficult driving conditions especially on highways exposed to strong and gusty cross winds.

The potentially damaging winds are expected to diminish overnight but still remain gusty Christmas Day Thursday.
