Chief Says Law On Their Side

The Chief of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.

Tom Bressette says the law is on their side in their decision to remove long standing barriers to the last stretch of Ipperwash Beach that's been blocked off to vehicle traffic.

Chief Bressette says they weren't consulted when the former Bosanquet Twp. and the province put up gates on the documented historical trails in 1973.

The beach had been wide open until then.

Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber is concerned about rising tensions and is asking senior government to resolve the issue.

Chief Bressette contends ownership is not in question because they never surrendered the land in the first place.

Property owners in the area, however, claim their deeds extend to the water's edge.
