Legionnaires Edge Maroons

Defenceman Jake O'Donnell scored his first career GOJHL goal with 38 seconds left in the third period, powering the Sarnia Legionnaires (18-7-0) to a 6-5 win over the Chatham Maroons (16-7-1).

Legionnaires forward Ryan Vendramin scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game. Sarnia led 3-2 after the first period. Riley Babkirk and Cody Trowell scored goals 1:16 apart in the second frame to pull the Legionnaires ahead 5-2.

Michael Levesque scored twice and Steven Beenackers added another for the Maroons before the end of the second period to tie the game 5-5.

Chatham goalie Bo Bessette was pulled from the game after allowing five goals on 18 shots. Former London Knights goalie Jake Patterson saw his first action in net for Chatham and made 10 saves. Goalie Hunter Johnson made 22 saves for the Legionnaires.

Legionnaires defenceman PJ Vandervaart got into a spirited fight with Chatham tough guy John Bowen in the first period. Each was handed a five minute major and game misconduct.

The Legionnaires remain in second place in the Western Conference with 36 points, six back of the Leamington Flyers and three ahead of Chatham.

Sarnia plays in St. Thomas on Friday night.
