Damaging Winds

Environment Canada included Sarnia-Lambton in a wind warning issued Monday.

A deep low over northeastern Ontario is dragging a cold front east across southern Ontario.

The arrival of the front is being heralded by very strong and gusty southwest winds with sustained speeds of 60 to 70 km/h with frequent gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.

The winds will be strong enough to cause some tree damage and possibly power outages.

The strong and gusty winds will also result in difficult driving conditions, especially on highways exposed to strong cross winds.

The weather agency says the winds will slowly diminish by Tuesday morning.

The wind warning includes much of southern Ontario including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Huron County.

Winter-like conditions will return quickly with temperatures in the wake of the front falling to just below freezing.

The return of colder air will result in the lake effect snow machine starting up again Monday night, with flurries to the lee of the great lakes developing.

Snow squalls are possible in traditional snowbelt areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay Tuesday.
