Smoking Ban Raises Questions With Councillors

As the province's smoking ban is set to take effect January 1, 2015, members of Lambton County Council raised some uncertainties surrounding aspects of the new law.

The law prohibits smoking on bar and restaurant patios, playgrounds, sports fields, and also adds stricter regulations to tobacco sales.

During a morning committee meeting in Wyoming, some members of county council believe there are still some unanswered questions.

Health Promoter with Lambton Public Health Kevin Churchill says some aspects of the new law are easier to understand than others.

Some issues committee members raised includ how will the bylaws be enforced in the more secluded areas of the county, and what are the regulations with parks and sports fields if they host a concert or event during the evening.

Churchill says tobacco control has been working to get these questions answered before the law takes effect in the new year.
