Snow And Wind Make Roads Slick

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Wednesday afternoon as a fairly fast-moving disturbance dumped snow across the region.

As expected, accumulation was relatively small with most areas getting about 5 cm (2 in).

Some areas near the great lakes were getting enhanced amounts off the open waters.

With the cold temperatures and windchill however, the snow quickly made for slick road surfaces and police are urging motorists to slow down.

There were reports of vehicles in ditches including a crash on eastbound Hwy. 402 near the weigh scales that was causing a slow down.

There was reduced visibility due to blowing snow in open areas. Hwy. 402 had snow covered and partly snow covered sections according to the Ministry of Transportation.

The OPP were reporting multiple collisions on Hwy. 401 including a three-vehicle crash westbound in the Tilbury area.

Visibility was poor in Chatham-Kent and Essex in sudden bursts of snow and blowing snow.

The snow is expected to end this evening.

A blowing snow advisory was in effect for Huron-Perth, southern Grey and Bruce and northern Wellington.

There was a report of a cement truck having flipped on its side blocking both lanes of Hwy. 21 at Mount Carmel Rd.
