Sting Wins Second Straight On Road

The Sarnia Sting won its second in a row on the road 4-1 in snowy Sudbury Friday night, extending the Wolves nightmarish losing streak to 13 games on Halloween.

As it did in Barrie Thursday night, the Sting jumped out to a first period lead, 2-0 on two goals by Hayden Hodgson, his fifth and sixth of the season.

Troy Lajeunesse added a shorthanded marker in the last minute of the second and the Sting led 3-0 after 40 minutes.

The Wolves would push back in the third period outshooting the Sting 19-10, pulling to within two goals on a power play tally by Nicholas Baptiste.

Taylor Dupuis, in his second straight start coming off a knee injury, was named the game's first star, stopping 41 of 42 shots.

Letowski feels Dupuis was the difference-maker in the game.

Sudbury netminder Troy Timpano was second star, making 37 saves on 40 Sting shots while third star honours went to Hodgson whose second goal in the opening period stood as the game winner.

Brandon Lindberg's empty net goal, his fifth of the season and third in two games, secured the win.

Daniel Nikandrov chipped in with two assists.

The Sting (6-6-1-1) climbs into second place in the OHL West Division, six points behind the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Sarnia is off Saturday and faces a tough test in North Bay Sunday afternoon against the Central Division leading Battalion who shutout the Steelheads in Mississauga Friday 3-0.

The Sting has two more road games next week, in Erie Friday November 7 and Niagara Saturday November 8 with Sarnia-Lambton hosting the 2014 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

Pre-tournament play Friday saw the U-S shutout Canada White 6-0 at the RBC Centre, Russia downed Canada Red 5-2 in Forest, Canada Black beat Sweden 4-3 in overtime in Petrolia and Finland downed Slovakia 6-3 in Watford.
