An incident at Suncor’s Sarnia refinery was short lived this morning.

Company spokesperson Jennifer Johnson says the on site sirens sounded around 9:30am after smoke was detected in a tower that was being opened for regular maintenance activity.

Johnson says the tower was quickly isolated and source of smoke extinguished.

The Ministry of Environment Spills Action and Centre and neighboring Aamjiwnaang were both notified of the incident.

A Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization Code 8 was issued.

That’s notification by a member of an internal abnormal occurrence that is being handled within the plant.

An all clear sounded just before 10:30am.
