With the first overall pick in the OHL draft, the Sarnia Sting has selected consensus number one overall pick Jakob Chychrun from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Minor Midget program.
Paralympic sledge hockey bronze medalist Tyler McGregor was given the honour of making the announcement, as heard live on CHOK Friday morning.
Chychrun is a 6’2”, 195 lb defenceman who scored 16 goals and added 27 assists in 29 games last season. The 16-year-old Boca Raton, FL native says he’s thrilled to be in Sarnia.
Chychrun says he’s excited to learn even more under Head Coach Trevor Letowski and Assistant Coach Andy Delmore.
He’s the son of former NHLer Jeff Chychrun and nephew of Luke Richardson.
The Sting will have 15 more picks as the OHL draft continues tomorrow morning.
