Pt Edward Remains Moved

Bones

The owner of an Alexandra Avenue home in Pt Edward is breathing a sigh of relief but also still looking for relief.

Nicole Sauve says the remains of an Aboriginal woman have been removed from her backyard, taken to Aamjiwnaang First Nation Tuesday and interred at the cemetary there following a ceremony.

Registrar of Cemeteries Mike D’Mello says the remains being so close to the surface is indicative of an aboriginal burial.

Sauve is still hoping to hear from the village of Pt Edward on possible financial assistance.

She’s facing five thousand dollars in costs for removal of the remains and an archeologist survey.

The body was discovered while the homeowner was preparing to install a fence in the backyard.

The people who found this woman should be given $5,000.00
